I lived in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona, for 35 years before moving back to my homeland of New Zealand, almost 14 years ago. Dawn Wall towered above my house, named this as it faced east and caught the first morning light. Back then, the house was relatively remote and very separate from Sedona, 7 miles south down a two-land windy road. I bought the house when my son was two so he grew up without television (no reception) or other kids in our neighbourhood of mainly unoccupied, summer homes. I like to think that the surrounding forest, heavy snow in winter and the river below the house made up for it.
