New work for landscape show at Santa Ysabel Gallery
I will have ten or eleven small oils at the show (6" x 6" and under). This 6" x 6" is titled,
"Cottonwoods at San Felipe"
This is a 8" x 6" oil, titled, 'Moonrise Over Santa Ysabel".
This oil of the Santa Ysabel Valley is 12 x 16, titled Edge of Day.
This painting is 8 x 10, titled "Late Light - Santa Ysabel".

ReplyDeleteI just saw the Santa Isabel gallery show. I think Late Light's color palette struck me most.
I'm curious, do you do your paintings plein air, using photo reference, or a combination of the two?
Beautiful work, the photos don't do them justice.

Amber, thanks for the compliments on my work! The pieces in the show at Santa Ysabel are a combination of studio and plein air. When I work in the studio I use photographic reference for the color but even then, much of it is from memory. The painting, 'Late Light' was done in the studio, but from a spot where I have painted on location many times.
ReplyDeleteI've painted the area so many times that the outdoor painting experience is becoming more useful to me than photographic reference.
