#22 of my 60/60 Challenge

I spent the morning painting at the old Cement Works in my hometown of Warkworth (New Zealand).  I love painting there as there is a boat yard there where an assortment of yachts are usually being painted, cleaned, restored, etc.  This oil (about a 6" x 9") is of the Carlisa, a cement hulled boat that is being lovingly restored by a charming couple - he's from Scotland and she is Swiss.  They spend six months a year in New Zealand and have been working on the boat for 7 years (but only about 18 months total time).  A labor of love!

  1. Saw this by chance and loved it, Adele.

I must be the only ex boat-builder who would never go to sea, just keeping them maintained is enough. Pictures like this remind me of what I'm missing.

    Love your work.

  2. Thanks for your comment, John. I must have been a sailor in a previous life as I've read every book ever written on single-handed circumnavigation....but I've never sailed. Boats fascinate me. I'm hoping to learn to sail when I move back to New Zealand.

  3. I'm exactly the same, book-wise. As a little boy I started with, 'He went With Magellan' and read the series then on through 'Swallows ans Amazons' etc etc

Interesting to see we both did work for the Philatelic world.

I love New Zealand, but haven't been there since the 1970s.
